Part of its charm is that it has no story and no instructions... Part of the joy - and frustration - is figuring it out as you go. It's easy to forget how simple a game can be and still be totally engrossing and enjoyable. There are no tutorials of any sort (and none required). It's a very elegant design. The mechanics... are so engaging that they need to be experienced and not read about. A clever but tricky puzzler that speaks for itself, even if it lacks so much as a title screen. Impasse has no story, no faux-justification for its existence, no attempt to claim you're saving the world by solving its stages. It's simply a challenge, and it's an excellent one. The satisfaction from finally cracking a mind-tickler of a level keeps you playing more... and more and more and more.
